MAC likes to shoot the three

As we hit the halfway point in conference play, I thought I’d check KenPom.com for any notable trends. As it turns out, the MAC likes to shoot the three. It leads the nation 3PA/FGA at 37.4%. Teams don’t necessarily shoot it well hitting 33.5% for 24th in the country. But they shoot 2-pointers well enough(48.6$ for 8th in the country) to have an effective field goal percentage of 49.2% (14th in the country).

One continuing trend is how well MAC teams play at home. In all but one year dating back to 2002, the MAC has been in the top half of conferences in home winning percentages in conference play. In 10 of those 14 seasons, the MAC has finished in the top 10.
